The park's history dates back to 1911 when Mrs. Mary Thayer Montague generously donated 49 acres of land to the City of Chattanooga. After years of misuse as a construction landfill and recreational space, the park was revitalized in 2016 as a sculpture park through the efforts of sculptor John Henry and a dedicated team. Since then, Sculpture Fields has become the largest sculpture park in the Southeast and a popular tourist destination in Chattanooga.
