Originally established as Lodimont ARP Church in 1875 in the now-defunct village of Lodimont, the congregation moved to Mount Carmel in 1886, coinciding with the arrival of the Savannah Valley Railroad and the establishment of a local post office. This move helped transform Mount Carmel into a vibrant community during South Carolina's post-Reconstruction railroad boom.
