The South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory, located at 324 Sumter Street in Columbia, South Carolina, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high-quality ballet and contemporary dance intensive programs for serious and pre-professional students. Founded 38 years ago by Artistic and Executive Director Susan E. Anderson, the SCSDC offers a diverse curriculum including daily ballet technique, pointe and variations, repertory, men’s class, partnering, jazz, character, and flamenco. The summer faculty consists of nationally recognized dance professionals from prestigious companies such as the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Martha Graham Dance Company. The Conservatory also offers a separate Jazz Intensive program, attracting serious jazz students from across the country. Dancers who have attended the SCSDC have gone on to dance with notable companies such as the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Miami City Ballet. The institution offers three professional intensives: a 3-week ballet intensive, a 3-week contemporary intensive, and a one-week jazz intensive.
