The chapel, built in 1725 as part of the St. John’s Berkeley Parish, is the only remaining structure from the 1707 Childsbury settlement. This chapel-of-ease was established to make it easier for villagers to attend worship without traveling to Biggin Church, which was 10 miles away in Moncks Corner. The chapel, located on private property, has been the victim of repeated vandalism despite the absence of valuables inside. It is a rectangular brick building with a domed ceiling and stone-paved floors. The Harleston Family vault, located on the grounds, served as a receiving tomb for the chapel.
