"Not sure what’s going on with this place, but management seems to have some issues. I bought some Iron Rangers through the Red Wing online store that seemed to have some weird things going on with the leather, so I called the local store to get an opinion. I wasn’t sure if what I was seeing was considered normal or abnormal, and I just wanted someone to tell me whether or not it was worth following up on. A very nice young lady answered the phone and was extremely helpful, trying to get me some info on my questions. I sent her a few photos of the spots I was concerned about via email, and she said she would ask her manager what his thoughts were once he could look at them. After a brief hold, the manager got on the phone with me, got pretty defensive, and basically told me that there’s nothing he can do for me and that I needed to go back through the online store for any returns or exchanges. I was shocked; he completely misunderstood why I was even calling and went into straight customer-service-self-defense mode (I work in retail, so I can spot this from a mile away). I tried to explain to him that I wasn’t upset in the slightest—I just wanted his professional opinion on whether he would consider my boots defective or not. I told him I knew he couldn’t help me, I just wanted to know if I should pursue getting them switched out with the online store. He again went straight into deflecting my questions and into an “I-can’t-help-you-mode,” even saying at one point, “let me repeat back to you what you just said to me.” Realizing I was not going to get an answer to my very simple question, and being so utterly confused and baffled by what was going on, I decided to hang up rather than keep getting berated. The boots are great. Just be careful when talking through questions and issues."

"Left very happy without spending as much as I or "wife" thought for a very good comfortable pair of steel toe pull on work boots. The man who who fitted up my my new boots was excellent, made sure I was very happy, I only wish I got his name and left a tip. He definitely deserved it. Knowledgeable, didn't try to sell me most expensive pair I picked up. I will definitely go back. THANKS AGAIN"
