Potter-Collyer House
The Potter-Collyer House, located at 67 Cedar Street in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, is a historic museum that was originally constructed in 1863 for Elisha O. Potter before being sold to Samuel S. Collyer. Collyer, a partner in N.S. Collyer & Company, later became the Chief of the Pawtucket Fire Department and tragically died in the line of duty in 1884. The house, a timber-frame structure, was moved 400 feet from its original location in 1962 due to the construction of Interstate 95. Despite numerous expansions and remodeling over the years, the Potter-Collyer House remains a unique example of vernacular architecture in Pawtucket during the 19th century. The house features Gothic hood moulds, bargeboards, and a two-story hipped roof addition. The Potter-Collyer House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is a significant historical landmark in the area.
