Originally named Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley, the institution has since expanded its services to include vocational rehabilitation, job training, and workforce development programs in eight counties. Over the years, Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies has received grants and contracts from various organizations, including the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped and the U.S. Department of Labor.
