"Horrible. I called months ago to schedule my son’s frenectomy. I asked a million questions as I was uneasy at the time with the decision. I asked about all the options to help my son cooperate through the process. I was told it was a 2 second procedure and no big deal at all and there was no form of medication and they would want to do the procedure the day of consultation. I then said that was fine but I also wanted to schedule an apt later in the week incase I needed to sleep on it after meeting the doctors. In the months between we worked with a myofuntional therapist. Who built confidence in my son and me with this decision. We had a session the week before and my son and her acted out EXACTLY what would happen at his appointment. He was honestly excited. I emailed the dentist office so they now knew I was on the same page for same day treatment. I was then called and told I wasn’t even on the schedule for the procedure either day. I was upset, shocked and confused. I was told someone new had taken my call. I was then informed they had laughing gas (only). And felt a sense of relief that there was at least a calming option. The morning of he told my sister “he was going to get his tongue fixed!” I was nervous like a typical mom. We show up and the doctor says she wants to take x rays. Which I said we did not prepare him for the x ray. I heard her say that will be a good way to see if he will cooperate. The nurse then begins attempting to take x rays I continue to say he is in therapy and has an extreme gag reflux. She doesn’t listen and insists on upsetting my son.WE DID NOT ASK OR PLAN FOR X RAYS which I kept stating we did not prepare him. The doctor then said he would need sedated and to get on the schedule for a Wednesday. WHAT A SHOT TO MY GUT. I didn’t know what to say I was speechless. We were all ready for this planned this week specifically. I start trying to explain my confusion and disbelief. I didn’t even know sedation was an option. So I persist we try. At this point I feel fogged and confused. The nurse and doctor are clearly giving each other looks and the nurse keeps ensuring me I am creating fear of the dentist in my son that will last a life time. I wanted to shout at her HE DOESNT THINK HES AT A DENTIST HE KNOWS HE IS HEAR FOR HIS TONGUE. Plus she doesn’t know my son. Who is she to add that to a mother’s head. So again creating more stress for me instead of helping us relax. It was clear the doctor and nurse did not want to follow through with this procedure. They kept knocking me down. Looking back I think my son would have participated better without laughing gas because I never prepared him for that THATS WHAT was upsetting him- but I wasn’t thinking clearly. Then I get the laughing gas on and they numb his tongue and they are not even explaining to me or my son what is happening and want him to bite on gauze- which he has serious oral issues with sensations and they don’t even tell us why he needs to keep it in his mouth. My son was laid back relaxed and she could have done it and let him lay there 5 minutes. The doctor then moved his chair up she said to wait 5 minutes but I think she knew all along she wasn’t performing the procedure. Then moved the chair and knocked the mask off. To which my son panicked and I had given up realizing the doctor was being just plain horrible. I am sick today and angry after months of preparation to what they did to my son. I will let everyone know how there was zero communication and they forced x rays on us. I am disgusted with this practices lack of communication and the way we were treated."
