Forefront Dermatology, led by Dr. Kimberly A. Rau, is a premier dermatology practice located in Allison Park, Pennsylvania. With deep roots in Pittsburgh, Dr. Rau brings a wealth of experience and a compassionate approach to her practice. She graduated from Shady Side Academy High School and Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, with a B.S. in Biology. She further pursued her medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine, earning both a Master’s degree and a medical doctorate.

Dr. Rau’s journey into dermatology began during her second year of medical school in Washington, D.C., inspired by her passion for skin health. She completed a rigorous three-year Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, followed by two years as a research fellow and staff physician at the Oakland VA in Pittsburgh. In 1999, she completed her dermatology residency at the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2004, Dr. Rau founded her own dermatology practice in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh. At Forefront Dermatology, she offers comprehensive medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic care for patients of all ages. Dr. Rau has a particular interest in laser and light-based therapies for treating conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and skin cancer. Her practice is inclusive, welcoming patients regardless of their insurance type, and is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care—a philosophy inherited from her father, the late Dr. Raymond L. Rau, a dedicated neurologist and psychiatrist.

Dr. Rau is board-certified in Dermatology and has been a fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology since 2002. She is also an associate in the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and a member of both the Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Academies of Dermatology.

Beyond her professional life, Dr. Rau is married to Jan McCoy, a native of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania. They have two children, Sean and Maggie, and enjoy skiing, tennis, and hiking as a family.

"Made an appointment for a full body exam. They didn’t check legs or torso. They weren’t even going to do an upper body scan until requested. They only wanted to check shoulders. What was the point of scheduling a full exam? Staff was very nice and the facility was clean, but the overall medical care is lacking."

"DISGUSTING behavior by Dr. Rau herself, I will never be returning to this office ever again. I’ve never had just a displeased experience with a place to feel the need to write a review. She stopped my medication in the middle of me taking it, not regarding the horrible effects it will have on my body. SHE refused to refill it regardless of me not having another way of getting it just because she didn’t want to take telehealth calls from me, even tho they all agreed to do it and says they offer it. She HUNG UP ON ME, mid call and made nasty snarky comments the whole time. She does not deserve a license, or any other patient period. Do not send you or your children here or yourself, she does not care about her patients if it’s not convenient to her."

"I have seen Dr. Rau for several years, receiving treatment for many pre-cancer spots on my head and face. During my last visit Dr. Rau noticed a suspicious spot on my arm. After a biopsy confirmed that it was a squamous cell carcinoma, Dr. Rau was able to remove cancer area. She is absolutely great."

"Waited 40 minutes to be seen and Dr Rau was so dismissive. I came in with an issue that was really affecting my quality of life for months and she was so cold and I was basically just told to use Dove bar soap. The same soap I already use. I had done research on what I think my condition may be but I wasn’t even given a chance to share my research as she kept interrupting me and said I will probably never get answers to my issues. Basically she had decided the appointment was over at one point and just stood up to go. The treatment room I was in was also dirty and covered in dust. Terrible experience."
