WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital

"I was here on 1/26/24 for lab work. The phlebotomy area was just that an area in a small room with 4 or 5 seats within maybe 2 or 3 feet from each one and no privacy. I complained to the tech and she had me talk to a supervisor. I asked her if they've ever heard of HIPPA. She said they didn't like it either and they had complained to management. I then went into the bathroom to give a urine sample. The light is old and very dim and the back of the sink was black with grime. It wasn't someone just got dirt on it, it was months old grime. I've seen cleaner and better lit gas station bathrooms. They then sent me to radiology for a CT scan. I get there and again no privacy. I needed to drink a contrast and they wanted me to sit in the waiting room with all the other patients for an hour while drinking it. There were no tables that I recall so you're supposed to hold this giant cup for an hour. I got up and left. I've had plenty of scans through the years and for everyone of them I was taken into the back area that had it's own private area for you to sit and drink/wait and they would come and check on you every so often. I think the owners of WellSpan need to invest some money into the facilities and while they're at it drive to Frederick, MD and tour their hospital/radiology department and see how things should be done! They also need to read up on HIPPA, I feel that my privacy was violated and they know better! Next time I'm sick I will go to Hagerstown!"

"My son was admitted from December 11, 2023 to December 14th 2023. The care he received was excellent. The nurses were amazing. They make sure both him and I were good. I definitely want to give a shout out to both Megan’s on night shift. I also want to give a shout out to the dayshift nurse Jennifer she was amazing and so sweet. There was also a student nurse named Addison, which I think she’s gonna make a great nurse when she graduates because she was so sweet and excellent. it’s just a shame that they dissolving the pediatric impatient unit because it’s definitely a need for it in the community. They definitely helped my son recently."

"My son is autistic. I waited in the car and told to check in every 30 mins which I completely don't mind. Came back and asked if someone called us. She said "I don't know who told you that, but some people here have been waiting for more than 3 hours." I said I'm not trying to bypass anyone. They told us to check in every 30 mins. I don't mind waiting. Then she asked details about my son which I answered. I saw she registered us again and I told her we already registered. I'm just asking if someone already called us. did I just register you again? I need to ask someone to take you off the system with a sarcastic smile. And I said I'm sorry. We waited for another hour in the car but no one called us and it was getting cold. My son was already uncomfortable. We went back inside. He was stemming when we got there. He was on the floor. I was chasing him around and trying my best to stop him. Not a patient complained and I told them I'm sorry my son is autistic. I was watching my son closely. This time we're waiting for 3 hours. The lady "nurse" (I'm not sure if she really is) who checked us in, in front of everybody at the ER told me my 5 year old son could hurt someone or anybody. She already knew my son was autistic. And for those who have autistic kids, you know how hard this is to be in a new place and stay for that long. Around 3 hours and 30 mins, then later we got called taken to the back. The nurse took to the back at the hallway with a bed. She said "I can't have your son running in the hallway. This is a hallway with patients." Then I said again. My son is autistic. I cannot contain him. In California, they usually put us in a room where he can't run off. And she insisted. I told the doctor, "aren't they nurses? Do they not know what autism is? What stemming is? What cognitive delay is?" The patient right beside me vouched for me and said "yes, they were mean to hear. She can't stop him. My nephew is also autistic ". I've taken my son to many big hospitals in California when he was younger. Riverside Community Hospital, Loma Linda Children's hospital, etc.. they know my son has special needs. this hospital is far the worst, my child didn't even have tantrums close to when he was in California. I won't generalize the staff but those 2 nurses, I hope in some way shape or form, you will go through this and you will remember how you treated us."

"I was amazed at the dedication and proficiency of the staff of the Chambersburg Hospital during my recent visit for surgery. I want to thank the staff at same day services, pre-op staff , the surgical staff, and the many nurses that were involved with my care during those 2 days. Everyone was professional, caring and focused. My deepest gratitude to each one of you."

"Currently in the ER with my daughter. Arrived at 10 am and she’s still waiting for an ultrasound. That was 4 hours ago. She has been back in this ER room all this time and the nurse hasn’t checked on her once except when she was called and her facial expression said it all when she showed up. This hospital is a joke. Was told the “higher ups” refuse to put more staff on during the weekend. Meanwhile patients in beds and the ER aren’t getting the medical care they need. Shame on this place! Drive the distance and find a different, better hospital. Wellspan and chambersburg hospital are the worst for patient care!"
