UPMC Horizon - Shenango Valley Emergency Department

"Most of the people I interacted with seemed like they didn't see me as a person at all, they acted very indifferent and aloof. The only exceptions were the intake receptionist and the x-ray technician who were above and beyond 5-stars on their own. They're the only reason this review isn't 1 star. The other people I interacted with explained nothing about what was going on (what tests were being ordered, what my test results were), and the notes for my visit were apparently copy-pasted from someone else's experience (the physician apparently 'spoke with patient's family about the importance of follow up', etc, although I was there alone, and said I felt 'improved' by the end of the stay, which was also not true). I could honestly go on and on about what I didn't like about this visit. Not a fan at all. Not sure if the staff is overworked and/or underpaid or just having an off night, but I wouldn't go back if I have a choice."

"I went in on a Sunday evening while feeling ill 12 days after major surgery. We were in and out in about 2.5 hours and everything was handled great. I had not been to this ER for quite some time and was surprised to see the area was already expanded larger than it had been."

"Disgusted with this ER. 3 hours to get in to a room after urgent care sent us here due to suspected concussion. Finally get back and it’s a shared room with someone who is barely breathing due to coughing and wheezing, with only a sheet between the beds. Zero privacy. Apparently they want to spread infectious diseases with patients who are at the ER for non-contagious reasons. Kind of ridiculous."

"Over 30 patients at noon today with multiple on beds in the hallway and only one doctor and one PA, who actually doesn't listen to her patients and leaves them to lay in pain with no medication for over 3 hours. No regards to Hippa or patient privacy when discussing issues in hallway. They ran tests on me that had nothing to do with what I was actually there for. When they did bring me medicine I asked what I was getting and why and it was also medicine for something unrelated to why I was being seen. Multiple patient techs and nurses complaining in the hallway about what time they came in and what time they were there until. Administration bought them all pizza and after admin left they were complaining in front of patients stating "instead of spending $300 on pizza they should compensate us." My discharge paperwork had wrong times for medications and labs. Also had wrong diagnosis. My urine specimen was also left sitting on a counter in the hallway for 2 hours before they took it to the lab. Left this ER and went to another hospital where they listened to me and treated me instead of playing games."

"I've recently went here twice. It was the longest wait EVER both times. I understand being short staffed but a 5 hour wait for an older woman with very high blood pressure that came in on an ambulance is ridiculous. while waiting last night, a nurse came out into the hallway with an exposed syringe like she was in the middle of filling it with the medicine in her hand. She took an exposed needle into an open waiting area with a bunch of sick germs floating around. Also if you call, they can't tell you anything over the phone... Why bother answering?"
