The Wong Laundry Building, located at 219-227 Northwest 3rd Avenue in Portland, Oregon, is a significant piece of the city's economic and ethnic history. Designed by Alexander C. Ewart, this two-story masonry structure served as a hub for travelers, businessmen, and workers coming from the nearby Union Station in the early 20th century. Originally housing a saloon and various retailers, the building later became a Chinese hand laundry, a radio repair shop, and living quarters for the Wong family. Unfortunately, the Wong Laundry Building has been vacant since a fire in 1970 caused extensive damage, and it has suffered from demolition by neglect due to a lack of funding for restoration. The building's unreinforced masonry structure has made it difficult to maintain, and it is considered seismically unsafe.
