Institute of Child Development
The Institute of Child Development, located at 2727 Asp Avenue in Norman, Oklahoma, is a school that serves as a laboratory for the Early Childhood Education Department. It also acts as a valuable resource for the community, offering high-quality early childhood education for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old. Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and designated as an Oklahoma 5 Star Program, the Institute has been providing educational services since 1935. At the Institute of Child Development, we focus on helping children achieve autonomy and self-control while fostering their understanding of the physical world around them. Our teachers serve as guides, resources, and facilitators, creating a child-centered environment that encourages learning through self-selected play and discovery. Peer interactions are emphasized to help children develop socially, creatively, emotionally, and cognitively. Extended care is available for children aged three and up on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. We welcome children of all backgrounds and abilities, working closely with families and professionals to meet each child's individual needs. Pre-kindergarten age children (ages 2-4) are eligible to enroll, while those who have reached kindergarten age are not.
