Side Cut Metropark
Side Cut Metropark, located at 1025 West River Road in Maumee, Ohio, is a popular tourist attraction and park along the Maumee River. This Metropark is where the Metroparks system originated over 90 years ago and continues to be a signature destination in the Toledo area. Visitors can enjoy fishing in the rapids where walleye spawn in late March and April, attracting fishermen from across the country. The park features the unique Maumee River Ledges, a rare alvar habitat found in only a few places around the Great Lakes. The name "Side Cut" comes from the former extension of the Miami and Erie Canal that connected the main line of the canal with the city of Maumee. Visitors can explore the preserved locks from the canal system, as well as shelters built by WPA workers during the Great Depression.
