These shelters, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, are made of American chestnut and locally quarried sandstone. Both shelters are fully accessible and offer a picturesque setting near the Ritchie Ledges, hiking trails, and a large field. The Ledges Shelter, located at 701 Truxell Road, features two fireplaces, indoor and outdoor picnic tables, and a large grill, accommodating up to 75 people. The Octagon Shelter, located at 801 Truxell Road, is named for its shape and can accommodate up to 50 people. During the summer months, the walls of the Octagon Shelter are removed, providing an open-air experience.
