"Love the idea of renting from a local shop, but it wasn't a great experience unfortunately. My wife and I rented equipment for a weekend at Snowshoe. My wife read the criteria and chose that she was a "beginner" when choosing skis. When she checked with the staff, she was advised that if she doesn't snow plow down the mountain, she should probably choose "intermediate", and so she changed her selection. Easy to say in retrospect, but we wish the ski was calibrated to beginner so that it would have popped off easily. She got twisted up, and ended up tearing her calf when the ski got caught and didn't release. When I returned the equipment, I talked to the manager to just give polite feedback about the above (made sure to emphasize that I was not being accusatory or assigning blame) and see if she could get the day she wasn't able to ski credited. The manager on the renting side immediately got defensive. He tested the ski to show me that it was calibrated correctly, which I actually appreciated, but my point was just on advising the staff to go with the written criteria on choosing skis, which I think is pretty good. The guy, very insensitively, told me that "It's part of skiing" and he wouldn't give me any money back, but would mark the paperwork for 1 day credit and put it in a red file and "hope the staff didn't throw out the paperwork". When I called later to ask if something could be emailed to me about the credit, was told we'd get an email or call back, but it's been about a week and there's been no contact. I'm giving an average score because my snowboard rental was fine; just the customer service was lacking. But I'll probably just buy and rent my stuff elsewhere now. My wife, I'm sure, will leave a below average review."
