Captain's Cove Motel

"Seems like a nice place where people feel right at home. Went thanksgiving and everyone was really kind, offered food, help cook etc. . Cute pool, BBQs even a small smoker, picnic tables, small areas to play and for pets. Nice ice machine, seemed like a pretty good vibe there."

"When I got the key, I brought my luggage in then left to get food. When I got back and wanted to settle in, I cut the TV on but the smell of the room was unbearable. I started to look around, as dirty as it was I wondered if it was cleaned at all. Then someone started violently banging on the door, yanking on the doorknob and wouldn't respond to me calling out. I opened it a little to see who it was. It was a staff member telling me I was supposed to be checking out and the room needs to be cleaned. I told them I just checked in but I the room doesn't look clean. They just said okay and walked off. I then noticed ashtrays in the room, and had enough. While I was gathering my things to leave, I did let them know the TV doesn't work either. They sent a maintenance person while I was gathering my things and I did ask why the room smells so bad and what the deal was with the ashtrays. He said they are all smoking rooms but they use air cleaners. I told him they aren't working, I didn't want a smoking room and didn't even think that was still legal in NC. I went to the office to turn in the key, I told her why and she did offer me a different room. I told her I don't feel safe or comfortable plus I have asthma and can't be in a smoking room, nor do I want to be. She said my payments hasn't even gone through yet so I'm good. I left, then got an Air b&b. They still took the money out of my account and refused a refund. It seems more like a pay by the hour type place, then somewhere you'd actually be safe or comfortable. I'm out $152.60 for one night and still had to get another place to stay. If nothing else, they should tell people about the smoking rooms. Given I had waited over 15 mins for someone to even come to the desk to check me in, I should have taken that time to leave."

"We had such a wonderful stay here. We appreciate our dogs being welcome guests, too. They even gave us goody bags! As with most pet-friendly accomodations, we expected to see some damage, smell or hair and we found none of that. (Minimal damage on woodwork and curtains). Our room smelled nice and was all clean when we arrived. Due to their prevalence these days, no matter where we stay, we always check for signs of bedbugs. Everything was clean and the beds had nice, preventative mattress covers. We had 2 beds in our room and still had plenty of room for 3 crates! We enjoyed the convenient location with great beach access. The sound of the window AC helped keep the dogs from hearing outside noises, which often prompts a little barking. They never made a peep! We all slept like logs! We didn't use the fridge or microwave as we just stayed for one night. We hope to be back to visit again soon and for a longer stay."

"This place is disgusting and the parking is awful. The rooms are outdated and nasty. The carpets and blankets have cigarette burns. They unplug the refrigerators and leave the doors open when not in use so if you come in with food it won’t be cold right away. The biggest thing ROACHES everywhere. Day and night. We had to stick it out for two nights so we bought roach poison but it’s literally infested. Also bed bugs had my daughter ate up terribly. One of the lights in our room clearly had an electrical issue because it kept flickering. The carpet is so nasty. The tub doesn’t drain. The sheets on both beds had stains. There was hair stuck to the toilet seat. Toothpaste splatters on the mirror. The beds are the thinnest mattresses ever. If you sit in the middle of the bed on the side it literally lifts up each end. They do bare minimum when it comes to cleaning. Also if you go to the office before it “opens” you will get yelled at by an ill middle aged woman. Even though there no signs anywhere with hours or says the office is closed. The older lady “owner” that lives in the house where the pool is is super rude and will stand outback and stare at you. I could go on and on about this nasty shack."
