"Hey, if you’re considering going to this gyno for basic care like a Pap smear or birth control, I sincerely discourage it. They do not have your personal best interest in mind. I’m 21 and I went in on 11/17/23 to do a Pap smear with Dr. Sumpter and had probably the worst experience possible for what could have been easily handled with much more care than what I was given. I’m lucky to have the support system that I do. The routine urine pregnancy test I took came back positive and I was immediately told that I was pregnant. I wasn’t reassured by being asked if I wanted to retake the test first, I was just told I was flat out pregnant. In fact, I was offered an ultrasound before I was offered water to retake the test and run a blood pregnancy test. They suggested I do an ultrasound 3 separate times, all three times I said no. After informing the assistant that I wanted to do the blood test and receiving water to do another urine test, I was then told that they “already retested the sample” (the same sample) and that I was “definitely positive”. I was sent into a complete panic, was scheduling other appointments with my mother, and was experiencing what anyone might feel when told sudden, life changing information. Logistically, I was at very least a month pregnant if I was actually pregnant (even though I had been having regular periods), so I went home and took three at home tests; all three of these tests were negative. I had a normal 4 day long period after the last time I had intercourse exactly a month ago (by 3 days) and was incorrectly told by Dr. Sumpter that I had missed my period so I must be pregnant. Additionally, I took a pregnancy test after my last period ended and it was negative. The day after all of this, I started my period on time with a normal moderate flow, no spotting, and mild cramps. In all, I’m not upset by the positive test result; false positives happen all the time. The way the staff did not read the emotion of the situation, did not consider the information I gave them regarding the medication I take/took (one of which being sertraline, an antidepressant that I’ve been on for 3 years which can increase hcG output causing false positives), didn’t accurately consider the timeline I gave them regarding when I had sex and when my last period was, and treated the situation like I was 100% confirmed pregnant even though they know I’m using contraceptives such as condoms and plan b, which all showed a serious lack of bedside manner. At very least, retesting the same urine sample for a pregnancy test seemed negligent to me, borderlining deceitful. When I was called earlier about the blood test results (which were negative), I was told this was “normal procedure”. I didn’t even get the Pap smear done, nor did they take the time to reschedule it for me because they were so convinced based off of one sample that I was pregnant. TLDR; Don’t get your Pap smear done here unless you want a multi-day pregnancy scare."
"I cannot possibly sing enough praise about Rachel Picher CNM!! She has the kindest, most relaxed bedside manner of anyone I’ve ever met, and went out of her way to make sure I was completely comfortable, even offering to reschedule so that I could return with some pain mgmt/anxiety meds (I was denied this request by other providers). Thankfully, I didn’t need to do that! She’s that good. She thoroughly explained all of my options and patiently answered every question. Hands down, the best experience I’ve ever had across 17 years of gyn visits. Every provider should aspire to be more like Ms Picher "
"I went in June 2021 to ask for a panel of blood work and thyroid levels checked and to talk about birth control options. It was my first visit there and my appointment was with Dr. Picher and she was nice for most of the appointment until she asked what birth control I was on previously and when I explained that I was on Microgestin without the placebo pills included and skipped my periods for three years, she looked at me like I was stupid and told me that wasn’t a thing. As if I just made that up myself and didn’t have a period for three years for fun. I decided not to even get birth control through that office because she tried pushing the IUD on me heavily after I told her that was not an option i’d consider. I got my blood work done in office and the phlebotomist was very nice, however while I was in the separate waiting room for blood work, Dr. Picher came into the waiting room and asked me if I had ever had STI screening before. IN FRONT OF ANOTHER PATIENT. I quietly responded no and that it was not necessary at all and she kept insisting on it in the middle of the waiting room. I agreed to get the testing done just to leave the room and go to the bathroom to cry while using the DIY swab test on myself. It was the worst experience I had ever had, and it was my first experience at the gynecologist."
"I am in my 50’s and I went to Dr.Sumpter today and I have to say she is awesome, very professional and goes step by step and she listens to her patients and to me that’s a good doctor. Her staff was also very nice."
"I have really bad anxiety and PTSD so scheduling appointments with new doctors is very hard for me. It had been several years since I even had a pap. I went in last year and became a patient of Dr Sumpter’s; she instantly made me feel comfortable. She is by far the best doctor that I have ever had. She explains everything and makes sure that I know exactly what is happening or going to happen. I love everything about going there. Everyone has been so kind and helpful to me."
