Apple Valley Model Railroad Club
The Apple Valley Model Railroad Club, located at 650 Maple Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is a popular tourist destination in Western North Carolina. Housed inside the Historic 1902 Hendersonville Railroad Depot, the club's HO layout features a Western North Carolina setting with a main yard in Asheville. The layout extends south to Spartanburg, S.C. and east to Spencer, N.C., with a Carolina and Northwestern railroad line that travels through Lenoir and Mortimer before joining the W.M. Ritter logging railroad at Edgemont. The club also has a G Scale All-Weather Layout located outside behind the Depot. Using a Digital Command Control (DCC) radio system, members operate a wide variety of locomotives and rolling stock on the layout. The club hosts monthly prototypical operating sessions, giving visitors a chance to experience model railroading in action. The club welcomes group visits of 10 or more, with visitors able to request a visit date through the club's website.
