Yates Mill building
Yates Mill building, located at 4630 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a museum showcasing a fully restored, circa-1756 gristmill. This historic mill is the centerpiece of Historic Yates Mill County Park and is the only fully restored, operational automatic mill in North Carolina. Privately owned for centuries, the mill was last used in the 1950s before falling into neglect. However, thanks to the efforts of Yates Mill Associates, a non-profit organization formed in 1989, the mill was restored and preserved for future generations to enjoy. Yates Mill Associates works tirelessly to maintain the mill and has developed a public/private partnership with North Carolina State University and Wake County Parks to develop the surrounding land into a nature park. The park, known as Historic Yates Mill County Park, offers visitors a chance to explore the history of the mill and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
