Duke Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy at Meadowmont

"We have had (and continue to have) the best experiences with the physical and occupational therapists we've been fortunate enough to work with these past few months. Kara (PT) and Sydney (OT) have been exceptional with our twin girls, giving healthy doses of encouragement, thoughtful approaches to our concerns, and realistic goals to help us get them on the right track to meeting important milestones. These warm, friendly professionals are incredibly helpful, both to our children and to us as parents, never talking over our heads with difficult medical jargon and always taking time to answer our questions. We appreciate everything that has been done for our kids, both behind the scenes and at our appointments. Everyone at this clinic, from the front desk team to other therapists and support staff, is so kind and welcoming. We love it here and highly recommend it to others!"

"Duke takes my insurance. We are in network with them. I made a PT appointment here for my daughter with the understanding that the PT appointment would be a co-pay of $26 dollars, since it was a physical therapy appointment, and that is the co-pay of physical therapy appointments with in-network providers on my plan. I want to stress that this location IS NOT A HOSPITAL. It is a standalone building in an office park. We arrived and checked in. I asked if I could pay in advance, as that's usually the case with co-pays. They told me no, I would pay later, but no one at that point gave me any information about payment or cost. After the actual appointment (more on that in a moment), I was told I would be sent a bill. That's when I started realizing something was amiss. "Isn't it just $26?" I asked. That's when I was told that no, it would be billed as a hospital visit and that the bill would be much higher. It was nearly 4x what I expected to pay when the bill was mailed to me several weeks later. The provider we saw (Laura Brown) was polite and friendly, but she had no answers for us and didn't seem to really understand the issue at hand. At one point, she actually went back to her office to read about the problem my child was presenting with. We left with no next steps, and I ultimately went back to my primary care doctor and made an appointment at another PT in a non-Duke affiliated practice. The next PT took x-rays, referred us to an ortho, and—you guessed it!—only charged the appropriate co-pay of $26. Go elsewhere for PT where the visits are billed as what they actually are. Duke is abusing its status in this area by billing simple, basic PT appointments as hospital visits because they know they can get away with it and insurance companies will deal with it. But it's not fair to consumers. And in this case, it felt doubly frustrating, since the appointment as not helpful in the least."

"Very professional and extraordinary staff, they take the time to get to know you and your problems beyond just the mechanical. Treatment is the best in the Triangle and handled with care and positivity from start to finish. Always willing to explain what they’re doing, the functions of the exercises they’re prescribing, and what the outcomes should be/how things should feel and move. I’ve had such a great experience here, I’ll definitely recommend this office to anyone who needs physical therapy in the future!"
