Marion Train Depot
The Marion Train Depot, located at 45 Depot Street in Marion, North Carolina, is a historic institution with a rich past. Originally constructed in 1867 as a freight depot for the Western Rail Line, it is one of the oldest surviving depots in Western North Carolina. Over the years, additions were made to the building in 1935 and 1952. The Depot used to provide passenger rail service until the 1970s. In 2005, the City of Marion renovated the Marion Train Depot with funding and technical assistance from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Today, the Depot serves as Marion's Office of Economic Development and is available for rent for meetings, parties, and other events. The facility can accommodate up to 110 people with tables and chairs provided.
