Long Island National Cemetery
Welcome to Long Island National Cemetery, a tranquil and dignified resting place dedicated to honoring the memory and service of our nation's Veterans. Located at 2040 Wellwood Avenue in Farmingdale, New York, our cemetery offers a serene environment for reflection and remembrance, serving as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in the armed forces.
About Us:
Established between 1934 and 1939, Long Island National Cemetery was one of seven national cemeteries created during the interwar period to address the growing needs of the Veteran population. Our cemetery serves as a vital part of the community, offering a final resting place that honors the legacy of Veterans and their families.
Visitor Information:
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and we remain open on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Visitors are welcome to explore the cemetery grounds, where we uphold the highest standards of dignity and respect for our Veterans. Please note that firearms and other dangerous items are prohibited on cemetery grounds, in accordance with VA regulations.
Burial Services:
Long Island National Cemetery provides burial options for eligible Veterans, their spouses, and dependents. We offer space for cremated remains in a columbarium and can accommodate casketed remains of subsequent eligible family members in the same gravesite. Burial eligibility is extended to all members of the armed forces who meet the minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. We also accommodate certain conditions for reserve components and eligible family members.
Memorial Features:
Our cemetery is proud to offer the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM), a digital platform that allows families and friends to honor their loved ones by sharing tributes, photos, and historical documents. This interactive feature celebrates the military service and achievements of nearly 10 million Veterans.
Ceremonies and Events:
We hold special ceremonies to commemorate Memorial Day and Veterans Day, ensuring that the sacrifices of our Veterans are never forgotten. Flags are placed on gravesites during these occasions, and families are encouraged to participate in the ceremonies.
Floral Regulations:
To maintain the solemnity and dignity of the cemetery, specific guidelines are in place for floral tributes. Fresh-cut flowers are welcome year-round, and seasonal decorations are permitted during designated periods. Please refer to our floral regulations for detailed information on permitted items.
Contact Us:
For burial scheduling and inquiries, please contact the National Cemetery Scheduling Office. For military funeral honors, arrangements can be made through the funeral home or directly with the appropriate military branch.
We invite you to visit Long Island National Cemetery, where we honor those who have served with dignity and respect. For more information, please explore our educational resources and learn about the rich history and significance of our national cemeteries.

"Always a moving experience. Placing memorial day flags on parents and other grave markers was personally rewarding. I felt it necessary to read every headstone where I placed a flag, they all should be acknowledged on this sad day. Its more then just loud music, barbecues or a furniture sale."
"The Long Island National Cemetery is a beautiful area kept lovely by the personnel who diligently work there. You can tell by the endless clean up done everywhere you look as you drive around. The peace you feel is amazing and the layout has been so well thought out as the trees, bushes, structures, buildings, etc. are well spaced out. You forget you are visiting a c cemetery and it is more like a wonderful secret garden of different areas of peace. I would add the pictures I took but they were too personal of family and friends of a somber day."
"Dignity, honor, and respect. When you leave this final resting place for a family member, you know that they had an honorable and respectful departure. I'm so sorry that I forgot the kind lady's name that explained everything and took us to the ceremony. And everyone there is so respectful and accomodating. Then there's the Navy personal. If you haven't been to one of their flag ceremonies (short, beautiful, and touching), or haven't heard 'taps' before, you will know after, that you family/ friend were sent to a better place with honor, dignity, and respect. Thank you all!!"
"What an incredible honor it was to place my parents in their final resting place. From all the help in the beginning from Daisy, Mike and the rest of the crew, to the Interment ceremony with the military honors it was all a blessing! My family is extremely happy and proud to have chosen The Long Island National Cemetery. The respect and honor shown to my parents remains, the cleanliness of the grounds, care and love is above top notch! I salute you all for all you do for all our veterans and families! God bless you always!"
"I am writing on behalf of a friend who just buried his mom after his mom passed 14 years prior and didn't leave any instructions for him, so I helped him with the funeral arrangements. Daisy was not only an outstanding staff member of the Long Island National Cemetery but went above and beyond for my friend. Took care of all the details, plus then some. He was only 5 years old when he had previously visited his dad's location until now as an adult to bury his mom alongside her husband and older son. It touched me deeply how kind, caring, personable, and touching everything went. Really great staff."
