The Country House, located at 1175 North Country Road in Stony Brook, New York, offers a unique dining experience with a rich history dating back to 1710. Originally a Farm House, this institution has served as a Town Meeting Place and Stage Coach stop over the years, with even George Washington’s Spies from the Culper Spy Ring known to have meetings here during the Revolutionary War. The most active spirit, Annette Williamson, a young girl from the 1700s, is said to still reside in the Old Field Room after being wrongfully accused and violently murdered. Guests, especially children, have reported seeing her spirit and even dancing outside in the morning mist. The restaurant has also been a meeting place for famous figures like Thomas Hadaway and William Sydney Mount, who held occult meetings here. Originally known as the “1710 House”, the institution has evolved over the years to become “The Country House Restaurant”, maintaining the legacy of its original owner, Mr. Thomas Wendelken. With its rich history and mysterious spirits, The Country House offers a dining experience like no other, with memories that last a lifetime.
