Heart and Mind STEM Center
Heart and Mind STEM Center, located at 520 South Oyster Bay Road in Hicksville, New York, is a school dedicated to nurturing young hearts and minds for a bright future. Our institution offers a unique American Sign Language program for Pre-K students, taught by experienced instructor Kamryn Shea. Research has shown that incorporating ASL into verbal communication can enhance vocabulary, spelling, and reading skills in preschool children. Our center believes in the importance of early language development, with babies as young as 6 months being able to learn basic sign language and communicate effectively. In addition to our innovative language program, Heart and Mind STEM Center also participates in community events such as the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon fundraiser, where students and parents come together to support a great cause. With the help of our dedicated community, we were able to raise $3,525 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
1844 Brooklyn - Boston Line
Welcome to 1844 Brooklyn - Boston Line, a unique local business located in the historic Greenport, New York, 11944. Our name pays homage to a significant chapter in American rail history—the establishment of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and its ambitious plan to connect New York to Boston via Greenport. This visionary route, conceived in the early 19th century, was designed to outpace the traditional path through southern Connecticut by avoiding major water crossings, thus offering a more efficient journey. The LIRR, one of the oldest railroads in the United States, began its journey as the Brooklyn and Jamaica Rail Road in 1832, with the goal of creating a rail line that spanned the entire length of Long Island. By 1834, it was officially chartered, and by 1844, the tracks reached Greenport, establishing a vital link that reduced travel time between New York and Boston from nearly fifteen hours to eleven. This achievement marked a significant milestone in American transportation history.
