Welcome to the Van Cortlandt Library, Arline Schwarzman Building, your gateway to a world of knowledge and community in The Bronx. Located at 3882 Cannon Place, New York, our library offers a vibrant and welcoming space for all ages, nestled near the scenic Jerome Park Reservoir and the historic Van Cortlandt Park.

Step inside to discover an extensive collection of books, including Russian and Spanish language selections, along with a diverse range of genre fiction from mystery to science fiction. Our beautifully renovated branch, which opened its doors in 2019, features dedicated spaces for adults, children, and young adults, as well as a community room for engaging programs and workshops.

We invite you to explore our newly expanded Teen Center, where digital resources, tech equipment, and art materials await, supported by the City of New York's Teens 360º initiative. Dive into our digital offerings, including e-books, e-audiobooks, magazines, and streaming music, all accessible from the comfort of your home with your library card.

The Van Cortlandt Library continues its tradition of serving the community, now honored as the Arline Schwarzman Building, named after a devoted Bronx native whose passion for reading and learning enriched her family and the community. "We love this library. Some of the staff are very pleasant. Love the activities they do with the kids and they have tutoring as well for the kids. Delores is awesome with the kids when tutoring. Johnson, Ken, and Chris are amazing with the kids too. The library is super clean and neat."

"The space is amazing. Also the staff is beyond rude. It really feels like the moment you walk in they start roaming around you telling you that it’s closing. Which brings me to the question? Who is this library for? The hours are very accommodating to stay at home parents but not to working parents."

"They don't have a great selection of books. Still a small library. But they offer plenty of help. Backyard is beautiful.. it's new and up to date. It's a good library."

"I stopped by this library in order for my son to be part of their story time and unfortunately the volunteer that does it didn't come in that day. One of the staff member at this library made our experience so memorable. He opened the play area so my son could play with all the cool toys that they have available. My son had a blast!!! Thank you to that worker for your kindness. We will definitely be visiting this library again!!"
