Spirit Animal Sanctuary

"Wanted to share my positive experience with Spirit. We made the heart wrenching decision to bring our anxious pittie there about 5 years ago due to unfortunate aggressive behavior that was not able to be managed with constant training and working with a behaviorist. Sadly he just wasn't able to adjust being a city dog with all the traffic, people, noise etc. We have a great relationship with Alan and go up to visit our boy (renting weekly airbnbs) as often as we can throughout the year. I agree it is a lot of work for mainly one person to handle but Alan is dedicated to these dogs and was a dog trainer for many years. If any of them get sick he takes them to a local vet for treatment. Our dog is happy to see us when we arrive but most importantly also happy to see Alan when he goes back. We are so grateful to Alan for being able to take care of our boy and allow us to still spend time with him as much as we can."

"Make sure you ask to see the entire property and dozens (I would say close to 100 or more) dogs living like wild animals. Spoiler: Alan won't let you see them ("liability"). Riiiiight. I contacted Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and learned how real sanctuaries operate. Of course, a real humane sanctuary has a huge waiting list. I decided to euthanize my dog instead of putting him through this. It was my selfishness speaking when I thought I found some kind of dog utopia. Spare your dog from this."

"RED FLAG: Did you know. ( Verified facts from Leyden town) Only a portion of spirits dogs are registered and Vaccinated for rabies. No one (Including the town) knows the correct number of dogs there. This is because NO ONE has done an inspection EVER! Visitors only get to see a small portion of this sanctuary. ( Remember that). Once your dogs goes there, you will not be able to get hold of Alan. Alan has buildings and also single kennels for very aggressive dogs. How many single kennels?. Spirit animal sanctuary is doing NO fundraising, no advertising, no updates on website or Facebook, has no employees and no volunteers that anyone can confirm. Alan will not answer questions but is willing to take more dogs. One man - too many dogs. Next time someone goes to visit, please post photos of the whole property and dogs in his care. Wouldn't that be nice to see."

"Great place for a dog to live out its life. Had to relinquish our dog in January to Alan, and while it was heartbreaking to say goodbye, he seems to be happy living with his new pack."
