Our name pays homage to a significant chapter in American rail history—the establishment of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and its ambitious plan to connect New York to Boston via Greenport. This visionary route, conceived in the early 19th century, was designed to outpace the traditional path through southern Connecticut by avoiding major water crossings, thus offering a more efficient journey.
