Currently, he serves as the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, the Chief of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and a Professor of Clinical Orthopaedics at the Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine.
Dr. Penna's passion for adolescent sports medicine is exemplified through his role as a team physician for the Stony Brook Seawolves. His previous experience as the Team Physician for the New York Jets and the Residency Program Director at Stony Brook underscores his commitment to advancing the field of sports medicine.

"He never came in the exam room to speak to me after receiving the MRI that showed a torn meniscus. His PA came in with absolutely no info and just asked what I wanted to do. Sh didn't give any advise, just simply kept asking " what do you want to do". I said I wanted to have it fixed and she let saying I'll have them call you to schedule. I never received a call. Completely unprofessional. They should be ashamed! Nice automated response."
