Originally located at the south end of the pond, the mill was relocated northward as the pond underwent natural changes over the centuries. In 1936, the mill's legacy was revived when Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hawkins entrusted the mill and the miller’s cottage to the Melville family. With a vision to preserve history, Richard Haviland Smythe was commissioned to construct a simulated mill featuring a working water wheel, celebrating the enduring legacy of the mills that once graced the pond. Today, this operational wheel stands as a testament to the area's past and serves as the headquarters for the picturesque Frank Melville Park.

The Frank Melville Memorial Foundation is located at 1 Old Field Road in Setauket- East Setauket, New York, United States. This park is a popular tourist attraction that offers visitors a unique blend of history and nature. Established in 1937 as a memorial to Frank Melville Jr., the park features five historic structures including a Greek revival post office, a grist mill, a miller's cottage, a barn, and a meeting house known as the Bates House. These buildings are set among a collection of 17th, 18th, and 19th century homes near the Setauket Village Green. Covering 26 acres, the park boasts ponds, native plants, and more than 200 varieties of trees. Visitors can stroll along winding paths that lead to Conscience Bay and the Caroline Church. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and maintained by the Frank Melville Foundation for public use. Please note that fishing is not allowed in the park.
