"I was recently referred to this cleaner by my tailor – I had brought in an old but favorite dress to be altered when she noticed a few stains on it. As I had not worn it in years, I knew the stains to be old. When I brought it to Valuclean, I was surprised at the high cleaning cost until Emerson, the person at the front of the store, explained that the price was high because of the types of fabric plus the added measures necessary to deal with the stain. He also explained that since the stain was so old there was no guarantee that it could be removed. He could see I was hesitant to leave the item and asked why. I explained that while the dress was a favorite of mine, it was old and one that I did not wear often and that it was in need of alterations, so I wasn’t sure it made sense to spend so much money to clean it. He then proceeded to tell me what I could do myself to try to lighten the stain, because if I could do that, the chances of having the stains removed upon dry cleaning would dramatically increase. If the stains did not lighten at all, he said, he would recommend not to have it cleaned or altered, but to spend the money on finding a replacement. I was extremely impressed by his honesty and I thanked him for the advice. About a week later, I went back to find out how best to clean a new item that was both a style and fabric I had never bought before. To my surprise, Emerson remembered both me and the dress I had brought in the week before and asked me if I had made any progress on it (which, unfortunately, I had not). He looked at the new item and told me I could either dry clean it or wash it at home, and since this piece of clothing was relatively inexpensive, his suggestion was to wash it myself and just bring it in to him to clean in the event that the item got unusually dirty or stained. He gave me very specific instructions on how to do the cleaning at home. Once again, I was so impressed by this man’s honesty and integrity. On both occasions, he chose to do business over just making money. If I ever wind up actually having to get something professionally cleaned, I will not hesitate to bring my business to Valuclean."
