Established by the pioneering pastor and parishioners of St. Mary’s Church, the cemetery hosted its first burial in August 1851. Over time, it expanded to include the adjacent "Potter’s Field," originally set aside for the less fortunate, emphasizing a shared belief in the resurrection and eternal life.
