About the Business

Welcome to Riverton Free Library
Nestled in the heart of Riverton, New Jersey, at 306 Main Street, the Riverton Free Library is a cherished cornerstone of our community, steeped in history and dedicated to serving our patrons with a blend of tradition and modern resources. Established in 1898 and part of the Burlington County Library System since 2003, our library offers a unique blend of small-town charm and access to a vast array of resources.
Housed in a beautiful Victorian home since 1908, the Riverton Free Library is more than just a place to borrow books; it is a gateway to learning, exploration, and community connection. Our historic building, along with the meticulously maintained grounds, is lovingly cared for by the Riverton Free Library Association, which also manages all local financial resources, donations, and endowments.
We invite families to embark on a literary adventure with our early literacy program, encouraging parents and children to read 1,000 books together before kindergarten. Discover the rich tapestry of local history and culture with your library card, unlocking a world of knowledge and stories waiting to be explored.
Please note that all branches of the Burlington County Library will be closed from Saturday, August 31 through Monday, September 2 in observance of Labor Day Weekend. For a full list of holidays and closings, please visit our website.
Join us at the Riverton Free Library, where history meets the future, and every visitor becomes a part of our story.

"Very disappointed in how my mother was treated. She came to the Knit Wits on Wednesday morning to try something new. The old ladies were the rudest people and said they “don’t teach”. Not only did they say that, they were cold, unwelcoming, and most didn’t even look up from their projects when she walked in. Isn’t the library supposed to be a place where people can come, be accepted, and learn? They need to change the description to “come if you’re friends with someone in the group because we’re a closed clique or come if you have an attitude problem” Don’t come to this group. (I should mention, the staff was wonderful and were appalled at how my mom was treated. Hopefully they address the behavior of this group)"
"I absolutely love this library. It's so convenient, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and it's so easy to request books from other libraries in Burlington County to pickup/return here. Truly a neighborhood treasure."
"Staff was very nice and very helpful. It was sweet to hear them call the visitors by their respective names. Mrs. Or Miss so and so. Very quaint area too."
"This little library is a hidden gem. Really, so adorable. My kids had fun in the childrens area, where we found loads of books to bring home. I love going to other branches for a "new experience" for my kiddos and then return them at our home branch."
"Cute local library. Small but is connected to the Burlington county public library system and members are able to request items from the entire catalog. The library has extended hours Monday to Thursday until 8:30pm. Though front desk staff generally complain of the long hours, I'm a huge fan. They often have events and activities most I've seen are aimed for 5-18, and 50+. While I can't describe it as friendly as the Cinnaminson library, it does have special appeal in it's schedule."
