Originally the home of Gilbert Vanderhoef, a flour and gristmill owner, the house has a rich history of ownership and operation as a gristmill until 1897 when it was owned by the Westervelt family. Today, the Vanderhoef-Westervelt House is used as a meeting space for various organizations and hosts exhibitions on the history of Clifton, Passaic County, and Weasel Brook Park.
