Furnace Pond
Welcome to Furnace Pond, Stanhope's hidden gem! Located at Kelly Place, Stanhope, New Jersey, Furnace Pond is a picturesque park tucked away behind the bustling Main Street. This serene escape is nestled in a stunning gorge just south of Lake Musconetcong, on a dammed section of the Musconetcong River. Visitors to Furnace Pond are treated to a rich tapestry of flora and fauna, breathtaking scenic vistas, and intriguing historical remnants, including the haunting remains of an old mill and a section of the Morris Canal that once fueled a thriving iron works industry. Despite its natural beauty, Furnace Pond remains a well-kept secret due to its challenging access. The area is overgrown with lush plant life and steep hills, and lacks maintained trails, which has kept it from reaching its full potential as a recreational and economic asset for Stanhope. However, efforts are underway to change this.
