Located at 520 Market Street, Camden, New Jersey 08102, the Camden Municipal Clerk's Office is a cornerstone of local governance, serving the community with dedication and integrity. As one of the oldest municipal offices in continuous operation since before Camden's incorporation in 1828, we are proud to uphold a legacy of service and commitment to our residents.
Our Role and Services:
- Custodians of Records: We maintain custody of all municipal records, including minutes, books, contracts, and archival documents. We are also the custodians of the municipal seal and attest to the signatures of municipal officers and officials.
- Secretary to the Governing Body: Our office prepares meeting agendas, attends all governing body meetings, and keeps official records of all proceedings. We handle the processing, recording, filing, and advertising of ordinances, resolutions, and the municipal budget.
- Elections Administration: As the Chief Administrative Officer of all elections held in Camden, we certify local vacancies, manage nominating petitions, and suggest polling places. We ensure the integrity of the election process and maintain receipt of election results.
- Open Public Records Act (OPRA) Requests: We facilitate access to government records through OPRA requests. Please note, this process does not cover birth certificate requests.
- Vital Statistics: We provide services related to birth, marriage, and death certificates, as well as marriage licenses. Visitors must present valid identification to obtain these documents.
Our office also coordinates with various city departments and agencies, including the Camden City School District, Camden Redevelopment Agency, and the Camden County Police Department, among others. We play a crucial role in managing records, supporting elections, and ensuring transparency and accountability in local government operations.
