Marshall House

This Federal brick structure, built in 1816 by Philip Marshall, is the boyhood home of James Wilson Marshall, the discoverer of gold in California in 1848. The house is listed on the National and New Jersey Registers of Historic Places and features many original architectural details, including an Adams-style frieze, pegged front door, and chimney cupboards. Originally situated on a large property that included a brick kitchen, wagon shop, and barn, the Marshall House has a rich history that dates back to one of the oldest families in New Jersey. The house was saved from demolition in 1968 and is now maintained by the Lambertville Historical Society, which showcases exhibits related to the life of James Wilson Marshall and the history of Lambertville.
