"I grew to like my stay here, I felt it was nice to have structure and things to do during the day. I felt like I could have used more slightly more attention on a one to one basis with regards to my feelings and mood. The should have been a better communication between the treatment team and my family."
"For the most part my treatment was great. I appreciated all of the AA meetings, creative therapy, as well as Mike’s classes. He made it a point to show me on his phone what recovery looks like. Shannon was an absolute sweetheart and I also felt support for Jack. The only negative interaction was from shoewanna when I had asked for a towel to shower. She was defiant at giving one and then when the charge nurse stepped in she gave one but felt the need to keep reprimanding me. Overall my stay was beneficial and I will definitely take the good from the bad. There were many times there was chaos including drugs being brought in as well as peers lashing out."
"I had a short stay here a few weeks ago, and at first my experience started off great. I was in unit 1, which was described to me as the young adult unit. In this unit the nurses and techs were AMAZING!! Della and Shannon are such great people! The environment was very calm and welcoming, me and the other residents were allowed to kind of do our own thing and they were really respectful of our space. Then, a few days after my arrival they decided to condense the units, so we were moved to units 2 and 3. This is where my experience took a turn for the worse. Some of the techs and nurses in there are VERY rude, and like to abuse their authority. I watched them continuously pick on the same girl, for no reason. Restricting her phone calls, forcing her to stay on the unit, and not allowing her outside for air breaks. Then, once she finally broke down and cried about it, they told her to just go to her room and stop trying to make a scene. Nothing she did in our time there warranted the way they treated her or spoke to her. Same with another patient, who was nonverbal. I watched the head nurse and male doctor make fun of the fact that he couldn't speak and used hand gestures to communicate. I am currently in school for psychology, and to see people in this field treat patients that way is truly DISGUSTING. People come to these centers to get HELP. Not to be ridiculed, yelled at, and treated poorly. No one ASKS to have mental health issues, no one ASKS to have to spend time in such an isolating facility away from their loved ones.. the least the staff could do is be decent human beings. They come stomping and yelling and laughing through the halls at 7 AM, and granted the days start early, but it was clear there was no regard for how the patients felt or if maybe they wanted to sleep a bit longer. At night they don't allow you to close your door, and when they come for rounds they swing the door open so all the light is in your face and don't even take an extra second to think about closing it back a bit. Then the whole thing of not being allowed to use your personal items unless its 6 AM? At least in unit one we were allowed access to our things at any time. At the end of the day I'm a person who is struggling mentally, not a prisoner. There is one specific tech from units 2 and 3, Melissa who was especially terrible. They way she spoke down to just about any and every patient, and the disgust you could see in her face when you spoke to her is actually baffling. She would only play cartoon movies on the TV, and would say "we're not watching something that an adult wouldn't watch". Hello??? Like its clear people like her enjoy upsetting patients. If you don't like working in this type of environment, then don't. It is more than just a check, it is peoples LIVES. Many of the counselors who led group made it very obvious they did not wish to be there. I had a group that literally went for maybe 10-15 minutes, and she basically ran out of the door at the end. From a patient perspective, its so disheartening to see the people who are supposed to help you, be your main enemies. The best thing about this place was the food. Please think twice before dropping your loved one off here."
"This was my first inpatient experience and at first glance I was critical of the care I received, but after staying a couple days at Hampton Behavioral I realized just how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to get well at such a well put together facility. The staff was exceptionally kind, supportive and helpful in my journey in recovery."
"I was a patient here for about a week. The staff was respectful and courteous. The food was amazing. I enjoyed learning about how to manage my anxiety. Some of the patients were a bit problematic, but I can't control who gets admitted. Overall, I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're experiencing metal health issues."
