Operated by the Bergen County Historical Society, this historic site served as a battleground, fort, encampment ground, military headquarters, and intelligence-gathering post during the American Revolution. The Steuben House is the only remaining building from the 1776 Retreat through Bergen County, known as the Retreat to Victory. The goal of the Bergen County Historical Society is to construct a new world-class history museum at Historic New Bridge Landing, showcasing the collective history of New Jersey. The museum is part of the Bergen County Historical Society at Historic New Bridge Landing, which includes the Westervelt-Thomas Barn restored in 2014. The Demarest House is a two-room stone dwelling that was originally mistaken for the home of David Demarest, Senior, built in 1678. Visitors can learn about the French Burying Ground and the old gristmill that once stood nearby.
