Originally constructed in 1927, the Herpetarium underwent renovations 50 years later and is now home to over 700 animals. The Herpetarium supports four different climates – montane, temperate, tropical, and desert – providing a comfortable environment for its inhabitants. The institution was one of the first of its kind, dedicated solely to snakes, lizards, frogs, and other amphibians. In 2002, it was renamed in honor of the Zoo's Director Emeritus, Charles H.
