Genevieve, Missouri, is a historic institution that was established by 1750 as the first permanent European settlement in Missouri. The early French Canadian settlers were attracted to the area for its rich agricultural land known as Le Grand Champ (the Big Field). Following a flood in 1785, the town was relocated to its current location on higher ground approximately three miles northwest of its original site. Visitors to Ste.
