The centerpiece of the park is a magnificent twelve-foot bronze statue, standing proudly on a granite pedestal that bears the names of the fallen heroes. This heartfelt memorial was the result of a tireless campaign spanning over two decades, initiated by a childhood friend of a slain officer. The creation of the Police Memorial was a community effort, brought to life through the dedication and support of police officials, local businessmen, and civic leaders. Despite initial concerns by the Regional Arts Commission regarding the backdrop of the thirteen-story Civil Courts Building, the statue has become a powerful symbol of remembrance and respect in downtown St. Louis.

Dr. Diane Merritt is an esteemed institution located at 4901 Forest Park Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. As a Professor Emerita of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Merritt has over four decades of experience serving as an attending physician at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Barnes Jewish Hospital. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including being consistently ranked as a Best Doctor in America and America’s Top Doctor. Dr. Merritt is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has held leadership positions in various professional organizations, including serving as chair of the Committee on Adolescent Health Care. Dr. Merritt specializes in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, with expertise in the care of women born with congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract, menstrual suppression, and cycle control for patients with developmental disabilities, and genital injuries and repair. Although she retired from clinical practice in 2020, Dr. Merritt remains active in her professional organizations, serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and continues to mentor and teach.
