The area is open to the public from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, with extended hours for specific activities like hunting and fishing. Whether you're looking to explore the scenic trails on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback, or simply wish to relax and take in the natural beauty, Amidon Memorial Conservation Area has something for everyone.
Please note the following guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. Activities such as the destruction or removal of department property, military training by non-government entities, and the use of paintball or airsoft weapons are strictly prohibited. Additionally, the use of glass containers within the Castor River Shut-Ins Natural Area is not allowed.
For those interested in camping, the area permits camping for up to 14 consecutive days within any 30-day period, with a total limit of 30 days per calendar year across all department areas. Groups of more than 10 people require a special use permit, which can be requested at least 30 days in advance.

"Beautiful area that the Castor River flows through and contains the shut ins. Not many county or forest roads in the conservation area. Low clearance vehicles should access from the west on 208. To the east on 208/928 has several water crossings."

"The Castor River Shut-ins can be accessed withing this conservation area. Highly recommend taking the .25 to .5 mile trail to get there. I forgot to grab a pic of the lot, but unless the place is very crowded, the lot is plenty big. The path to the shut-ins is mostly flat and mulched until you get to the river. There it gets very rocky, so wear good shoes. The drive to this area is very pretty with a lot of pasture and and a wooded canopy over most stretches of the paver road."
"Such a beautiful place. Although found a few items of trash on the trail. A place to get away and reconnect with nature as the cool water brings you back in the moment. Great for climbing, swimming, hiking, and kid friendly. A lot of swallow areas but also some strong rapids after it rains. Please pick up after yourself when leaving to ensure this wonderful place remains beautiful."
