Welcome to the Mounted Police Stables, a historic and vital part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Safety Division. Located at 5120 Clayton Avenue in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, our Mounted Patrol Unit is dedicated to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the nearly 1300 acres of Forest Park. Operating 24/7, our team plays a crucial role in patrolling the park, assisting with crowd control during major city events, and proudly representing the department in annual parades throughout St. Louis. Established on March 18, 1867, following a legislative act by the Missouri Legislature, the Mounted Patrol Unit has a rich history of service. Originally comprising 16 officers, the unit quickly expanded, moving to its current location in Forest Park by 1893. Over the decades, the unit has adapted to the changing times, overcoming challenges such as the advent of automobiles, which temporarily led to its disbandment in 1948. However, thanks to the vision of Mayor A.J. Cervantes, the unit was reestablished in 1971 and has since become an integral part of the city's law enforcement.
