Coldwater Spring

The spring provided water to the fort and later the Upper Post, with a formal waterworks system being established in 1880. The property was later home to the Bureau of Mines: Twin Cities Research Center, which developed mining safety equipment and analyzed moon rocks brought back by the Apollo missions. The buildings were vacated in 1997 and demolished in 2011. Today, Coldwater Spring offers a crushed limestone trail for walking, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching opportunities.
