The ND Equestrian Team, located at 71487 Kline Road in Niles, Michigan, is a co-ed undergraduate club and team associated with the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College. The team competes in events throughout Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois as part of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in Zone 7, Region 1. The club consists of members of all riding abilities, with team members participating in competitions and club members enjoying weekly rides without competing. The team's origins date back to the 1987 Special Olympics, where the idea for a riding club was sparked by student Liz Holtz Messaglia and faculty advisor Stephen Hayes. Since then, the team has continued to uphold a long tradition of equestrian excellence.
