A. Paul Schaap Science Center
● OpenThe A. Paul Schaap Science Center at Hope College in Holland, Michigan is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to undergraduate science education. With a focus on student-faculty research, the center houses departments in biology, chemistry, geological and environmental sciences, nursing, and psychology. The center boasts 12 classrooms, 30 faculty research laboratories, 21 teaching laboratories, a science museum, and an atrium for student study and collaboration. Named after Hope College trustee Dr. A. Paul Schaap '67, the center also includes the renovated Peale Wing, named for former trustee Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his wife, Ruth Stafford Peale. Lubbers Hall

Constructed in 1942, the charming Dutch-influenced architecture of Lubbers Hall is home to the departments of English, history, political science, philosophy, and religion. The building is named in honor of Dr. Irwin J. Lubbers, who served as Hope's seventh president from 1945-1963. Originally purposed as the college's science center and housing the theatre program, Lubbers Hall underwent a major renovation in 2006. The $3 million project added 28 more offices, bringing the total to over 60, and included upgrades such as air conditioning, a new fire system, and new windows. The building, totaling about 25,000 square feet with three main floors and six classrooms, now serves as a hub for the humanities and social science programs at Hope College.
