Department of Performing Arts Technology
The Department of Performing Arts Technology, located at 1100 Baits Drive in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a store that integrates the study of music, engineering, and allied arts in a collaborative environment. The faculty consists of internationally renowned scholars, teachers, artists, and practitioners, who have access to state-of-the-art studios for mastering a spectrum of technological skills. Students at this top-ranked public university have the opportunity to collaborate with peers across campus, from musicians and dancers to engineers, in developing next-generation audio technologies. The faculty includes sound engineers, composers, performers, filmmakers, instrument makers, and designers, who work on integrating music technology with musical performance. With nearly 900 student performances each academic year, students have the chance to showcase their talents in various ensembles, ranging from classical to contemporary music, jazz, electronic, and world music. Opportunities are also available for students interested in theatre, musical theatre, dance, and opera. The Department offers programs in Organ Performance, Carillon Performance, and Early Music Ensembles, providing students with unique performance opportunities and experiences. Donations to the Performing Arts Technology Enrichment Fund help support the next generation of artists, scholars, educators, and entrepreneurs in the performing arts. Applications for the Department of Performing Arts Technology are due by December 1st for the 2024-2025 academic year.
