Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center
The Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center is a government institution located at 74 North Washington Avenue in Battle Creek, Michigan, United States. It is open on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on federal holidays. Visitors must enter via Building 2 on Washington Avenue and pre-arrange an escort, pass security screening, and present a valid ID. The center houses a Snack Bar in Building 2 on Floor 1 and vending machines in Building 1 on the ground floor and Building 2 on Floor 1. The institution has a rich history, originally established as the Western Health Reform Institute in 1866, then becoming the Battle Creek Sanitarium in 1878, Percy Jones Army Hospital in 1942, and finally the Battle Creek Federal Center in 1954. In 2003, it was renamed in honor of three former U.S. senators who were patients there during World War II: Philip Hart of Michigan, Robert Dole of Kansas, and Daniel Inouye of Hawaii. The center is managed by the U.S. General Services Administration and follows federal property management regulations. Rates for lodging and per diem allowances are set by the Department of Defense and State Department, with specific guidelines for different locations and travel dates.
