Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entry Light
Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entry Light is a historic tourist attraction located on White City Road in Chassell, Michigan, United States. Built in 1868 to support the iron and copper trade on Lake Superior, the light originally served as a small beacon at the end of a pier extending from the mouth of Portage River. Over the years, the light underwent several renovations and upgrades, including the addition of range lights in 1868 and a new fog bell tower in 1902. The main light structure, located at the end of the breakwater, features a fourth-order fixed lens with a 200-watt incandescent lamp, providing approximately 6,500 candlepower. The fog-signal outfit includes a 6-inch automatic siren and duplicate oil engine-driven air compressors. Visitors can explore the historic site and learn about its significance in guiding vessels safely through the Keweenaw Waterway.
